In the Beginning
In 1989, a group of people with a common interest in researching their family history met at the home of Gert Ogushwitz in Storrs, CT. That was the start of the Jewish Genealogy Society of Connecticut.
Gert was the first president. Vice-presidents were Ed Cohen and Lew Goldfarb.

Moving On
By 2006, the group had grown too large to meet in someone's home and they also wanted a more central location. They moved their meetings to the Godfrey Memorial Library in Middletown, CT.

Currently
When the group outgrew the Godfrey Memorial Library, they moved to Temple Sinai in Newington, CT. It was important to find a place that could also house their library of research books on Jewish Genealogy. We met in person at Temple Sinai up until COVID.
During COVID we held our meetings via Zoom. As of 2025, we now hold hybrid meetings if we have an in-person speaker, or Zoom only, if the speaker is from out-of-state. We still have some in-person events and lots of new member opportunities.

How the JGSCT Logo Evolved
The second logo, designed by Doris Nabel, depicted the Charter Oak Tree which is the state tree of Connecticut. It was in use until June of 2024.
In May of 2024, a contest was held to design a new logo. There were 10 entries. The Board chose 5 for the membership to vote on. The winner of the contest would recieve a free year's membership to JGSCT. Phil Karlin designed the winning logo.
