Our End-of-Year Gathering
Our members enjoyed an end-of-year gathering at Phil Karlin's house where they shared family recipes and stories. Those of us on Zoom were sorry we could not participate in the taste-testing, but nonetheless enjoyed the stories.
Phil had an unexpected visitor who wanted to join in on the fun as the meeting was ending!
Recordings of this meeting and older meetings are available in the Members Only section,

Featured Recipe
We have a new website section called Family Recipes and Stories under the Members Only content. Periodically we will feature one of the recipes here for all to enjoy.

Phil Karlin's Chopped Herring Salad
(his method - for the original recipe, click here.)
Ingredients:
Directions:
(his method - for the original recipe, click here.)
Ingredients:
- I jar pickled herring (e.g. Vita herring in wine sauce), which is packed in vinegar and onions.
- Some extra raw onion
- 2 Hard-boiled eggs
- Bread (could be any kind) or matzoh
- An apple. I like Granny Smiths, but any will do.
- Mayonnaise
Directions:
- Make the breadcumbs in the food processor. There is sufficient liquid in the jarred herring that the bread doesn't need to be soaked in water, as Grandma did. Set aside.
- Coarsely Chop the hard-boiled eggs, apples and onion in the food processor. Set aside.
- Drain the herring and grind up in the food processor.
- Mix everything together in a bowl with the mayonnaise.
- Taste. If necessary, add more of whatever to get the balance you want.
